Prime Minister Narendra Modi has called for meaningful cooperation among SCO member countries for security, economic development and connectivity in the region. Addressing the plenary session of Shanghai Cooperation Organisation in the Chinese city of Qingdao, Mr. Modi also coined a new acronym - SECURE.
"S" से मतलब है Security of our citizens. "E" से मतलब है Economic development for all, "C" से Connecting the region,"U" से United our people,"R" से Respect for sovereignty and integrity, "E" से Enviornment protection. मैं मानता हूं कि इन दिशाओं में सार्थक सहयोग से ही हमारा SCO सही मायनों में सेफ एंड कनेक्टिंग आर्गनाइजेशन बन सकेगी।"
Prime Minister reiterated India’s stand on the Belt and Road Initiative of China and said that India welcomes the connectivity projects that are inclusive, sustainable, transparent and respect sovereignty and territorial integrity of nations.
The SCO summit which concluded yesterday adopted the Qingdao declaration to combat terrorism, separatism and extremism. It also called for steps to prevent radicalization(who supports great social and political change) of youth, sharing of information on terrorist activities and narcotics(an addictive drug affecting mood or behaviour). The meeting endorsed the idea of a multipolar and open world and expressed its stand against unilateralism(involving only one group or country)and trade protectionism. More from our correspondent:
"The Shanghai Cooperation Organisation, SCO is a relatively new organisation with only 8 member states. But its significance lies in the strategic importance of its members comprising four resource rich countries from Central Asia and three major powers of the world including India, China and Russia. Prime Minister Modi drew attention to the threat of terrorism and need for regional cooperation. From regional cooperation to threat of drugs, connectivity to endorsement of a multipolar world, the SCO meeting covered a wide range of issues.
Mr Modi returned home last night after his 2-day visit to China.

The WHO has commended(praise) India's progress in reducing the maternal mortality ratio, MMR by 77 per cent. It said, this progress puts the country on track towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goal target of an MMR below 70 by 2030. India's present MMR is below the Millennium(a period of a thousand years) Development Goal target.
WHO Regional Director for South-East Asia, Poonam Khetrapal Singh said, India has made a concerted push to increase access to quality maternal health services with the coverage of essential maternal health services having doubled since 2005. She said, the country has put significant emphasis on mitigating the social determinants of maternal health. Women in India are more literate than ever, with 68 per cent now able to read and write.

India Meteorological Department, IMD will use flash flood guidance system for the first time in the country to forecast floods. Currently, the Central Water Commission issues flood warnings. Talking to AIR IMD Director General KJ Ramesh said the national weather agency is preparing to launch this service from the next month.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel has said European Union, EU will implement counter-measures(an action taken against an unwanted action or situation) against US tariffs on Steel and Aluminium just like Canada. In an interview to a public television, ADR following the G7 summit, Merkel said the European Union is preparing counter-measures against US tariffs on steel and Aluminium imports, in line with World Trade Organisation rules. Home Minister Rajnath Singh today held a high level meeting in New Delhi to review Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s security in the wake of inputs about the threat to his life. National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Home Secretary Rajiv Gauba and others were present in the meeting. In a tweet, Home Ministry said, Mr. Singh has directed that all necessary measures be taken in consultation with other agencies to suitably strengthen the security arrangements for the Prime Minister. The Ministry said, it is in receipt of a report from Maharashtra police regarding certain communications amongst individuals having links to Maoist organisations containing references to target the Prime Minister.

Railway Minister Piyush Goyal today said, train accidents have gone down by 62 per cent in the last four years under the NDA rule. Briefing reporters in New Delhi on the achievements of his Ministry in the last four years, Mr Goyal said, there were 118 train accidents in 2013-14, which have come down to 73 in 2017-18. He said, huge investments have been made for the development and modernisation of Railways during the period.

Mr Goyal said, Rashtriya Rail Sanraksha Kosh has been created with a corpus(a collection of written texts) of one lakh crore rupees for making additional funds available for safety related works.
On the occasion, the Minister launched two mobile application - the Rail Madad and Menu on Rails.

The historic summit between US President Donald Trump and North Korea leader Kim Jong-un will take place in Singapore tomorrow. The diplomats from the two sides are engaged in hectic parleys behind closed doors to narrow their differences. The two sides made progress in their talks ahead of a much-publicised summit. US President has expressed hope that a nice outcome could be reached from, what he said, a very interesting meeting with Kim tomorrow.
The US also offered a unique security guarantees to North Korea if it accepts a complete, verifiable and irreversible denuclearisation. However, sanctions on North Korea will remain until that has been achieved.
Both Trump and Kim separately met Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and thanked him for hosting the summit.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other prominent(important; famous) leaders today visited All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi to know the condition of Former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. Mr Vajpayee was admitted to the hospital this morning for routine check up and investigations. He was admitted as per advise of doctors and he is under the supervision of Dr Randeep Guleria, Director, AIIMS and he is stable. Earlier, BJP President Amit Shah and Health Minister J P Nadda reached the AIIMS. Congress President Rahul Gandhi also visited the hospital to know the condition of former Prime Minister.- Kailash Mansarovar Yatra begins.

The first batch of Kailash Manasarovar Yatra-2018 was today flagged off in New Delhi by minister of state for External Affairs V K Singh. There are two routes for Yatra-through Lipulekh pass (Uttarakhand) and through Nathu La pass (Sikkim). We have a desk report.
“Pilgrims(worshipper) will reach Kailash Manasarovar via Lipulekh in eighteen batches of 60 pilgrims each. Ten batches of 50 pilgrims each will reach there via Nathu La. The duration of the Yatra via Lipulekh is 24 days for each batch including three days in Delhi for preparatory work. The route through Nathu La pass is motorable and suitable for senior citizens unable to undertake arduous(difficult) trekking. Duration of this route is 21 days including three days in Delhi for preparatory work.”

Health Minister J P Nadda has said the centre will sign MoUs with maximum states on the 14th of this month in New Delhi to implement its government's ambitious scheme Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Swasthya Suraksha Mission under Ayushman Bharat. The scheme aims to provide five lakh rupees annual health cover per family to ten crore poor families. A beneficiary will be allowed to take cashless benefits from any public and private empnelled hospitals. Briefing reporters in New Delhi over the four years achievement of the Ministry, Mr Nadda said, so far MoUs with eight states have been inked and MoUs with 12 states are under process. The Minister said, the second component of Ayushman Bharat is to establish 1.5 lakh health and wellness centres by 2022.
Mr Nadda said, Maternal Mortality Ratio, MMR has declined from 167 points in 2011-13 to 130 in 2014-16 showing a reduction by 37 points. He said, with this, India has registered a record 22 percent reduction in MMR since 2013.
“Maternal mortality ratio है उसमें decline 37 points का है। ये एक बहुत बड़ी achievement है। अभी UNICEF ने भी और World Health Organisation ने भी इसको सराहा है। तो हम इस स्पीड से अगर चलेंगे, we will be able to attain the MMR maternal mortality ratio of the SDG goals much before 2030.”

The 44th G7 summit was held on June 8–9, 2018, in Quebec, Canada. This was the sixth timesince 1981 that Canada has hosted the meetings.
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has hosted this summit. The 45th G7 summit or next G7 summit will be held in 2019 in France.
