  • Delegation level talks between US President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un underway in Singapore.

The historic delegation level talks between US President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un is underway in Singapore. Before they met for delegation level talks, the two leaders held a brief one-on-one meeting at the Capella Hotel in Sentosa Island. Talking to media persons after the one-on-one meting,  US president said that both the nations will have a terrific relationship ahead and expressed hope that this summit would be successful.
Sitting next to US president, North Korea leader said there were a number of obstacles to the meeting. He said,it was not easy to have reached where North Korea and US reached today. Kim said they have overcame old prejudices to arrive at  this stage.

The bilateral summit between both the countries is aimed at normalising bilateral ties and complete de-nuclearisation of the Korean peninsula. It was the first time a sitting US president met a North Korean leader in the last 60 years.
  • Britain assures India of full cooperation in bringing to book any fugitive.

The United Kingdom has assured India of full co-operation towards bringing to book any body whether it is Vijay Mallya or Nirav Modi who is wanted in India by Indian courts or agencies. This was stated by Minister of State for Home Mr. Kiren Rijiju yesterday after his meeting with UK Minister of state for counter terrorism Baroness Williams in New Delhi.
"I have a very fruitful meeting with the UK Minister and I have put across the demand of the government of India that anybody who is wanted in India by indian agencies or indian court, we seek the co-operation from the UK authorities and the Minister has assured to give full cooperation whether it is Vijay Mallya case or Nirav Modi or anybody. "
Mr. Rijiju said the UK Minister had told him that Britain should not be viewed as a safe haven for men wanted by the law of the other country for various offences. Baroness Williams said the issue of extradition of liquor baron Vijay Mallya is progressing through appropriate legal channels.

Home Ministry has ordered further strengthening of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's security in the wake of an assassination plot by Maoists. Home Minister Rajnath Singh has directed that all necessary measures be taken in consultation with other agencies to suitably strengthen the security arrangements for the Prime Minister. Home Minister, yesterday chaired a high-level meeting attended by National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Home Secretary Rajiv Gauba and Intelligence Bureau Director Rajiv Jain. Home Ministry said, it has received a report from Maharashtra Police regarding a plot to target Prime Minister's roadshows during election campaigns by Maoists.
  • Condition of Former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee is stable.

The condition of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee is stable. A statement issued by the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi last night said that appropriate treatment was being administered to him by a team of doctors under the supervision of AIIMS Director Randeep Guleria. The statement added that Mr Vajpayee was admitted to the hospital following complaints of a lower respiratory tract infection and kidney issues and he was diagnosed with a urinary tract infection.

Prime Minister  Modi visited AIIMS yesterday evening to know the condition of Mr. Vajpayee and interacted with family members of Mr Vajpayee.
  • Government launches 5000 Wi-Fi Choupals in villages and delivery of rail tickets through Common Service Centres.

Government has launched 5,000 Wi-Fi Choupals in villages and delivery of rail tickets through Common Service Centres, CSCs. It was inaugurated by Electronics and IT Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad in New Delhi yesterday. The move is aimed at transforming rural Internet connectivity through BharatNet. The WiFi Choupals will enable people in rural areas with an effective Internet access for their various digital processes. Ravi Shankar Prasad said, with the concept of power of information, CSCs are running a mass movement of digitalization which, in turn, empowers the common man. Mr Prasad also announced that the Prime Minister will  address CSC- VLEs on 15th of this month.
  • And in Sports: Indian boxer Gaurav Bidhuri bags bronze medal in Umakhanov Memorial Tournament in Russia.
  • रूस में उमाखनोव मेमोरियल टूर्नामेंट में भारतीय मुक्केबाज गौरव बिधूड़ी ने कांस्य पदक जीता।
India's Gaurav Bidhuri has settled for a bronze medal in 56kg after going down in the last-four stage of the Umakhanov Memorial Tournament in Kaspiysk, Russia yesterday. Two Indian boxers Brijesh Yadav (81kg) and Virender Kumar (91kg) have advanced to the finals scheduled for today. While Yadav out-punched local favourite Abdulla Nazhmudinov, Kumar got the better of Azerbaijan's Gulguseyn Agazade to make the summit clashes.

Among the Indian women, only Sweety Boora (75kg) has made it to the final.
  • India welcomes US-North Korea Summit calling it a positive development; South Korea hopes for a new beginning in relations between the two Koreas and United States.

India has welcomed the United States - North Korea Summit held in Singapore. Ministry of External Affairs, in a statement, today said this is a positive development and India has always supported efforts to bring about peace and stability in the Korean Peninsula through dialogue and diplomacy.
India hoped that the resolution of the Korean Peninsula issue will address India's concerns about proliferation linkages extending to India’s neighbourhood. It also hoped that the outcomes of the summit will be implemented, paving the way for lasting peace and stability in the region.
After decades of hostilities, the United States and North Korea are ready to write a new chapter in their relations. These were the words of US President Donald Trump at a press conference at the end of a landmark summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un at Sentosa island in Singapore. The summit saw Pyongyang commit to a complete de-nuclearisation of the Korean Peninsula. In return US has decided to provide security guarantees to North Korea. The US President asserted that there will be a complete de-nuclearisation, and it will be verified.
"Of all missiles and of all nuclear test, they secure the closure of their single primary nuclear test site, all three of them, they are in an area that is common, around each other. They secure the commitment to destroy the missile engine testing site."
A joint document was signed by the two leaders in this regard. The document said, both nations commit to establish new relations in accordance with the desire of the two countries for peace and prosperity.
"The people of Korea, North and South are profoundly talented, industrious and these are truly gifted people. They share the same heritage, language, customs, culture and destiny but to realize their amazing destiny, to reunite their national family, the menace of nuclear weapons will now be removed. In the meantime, the sanctions will remain in effect."
North Korea's Kim Jong Un said, they have decided to leave the past behind.
"We had a historic meeting and have decided to leave the past behind. The world will see a major change."
Meanwhile, World leaders have hailed the historic summit and saw this as a positive step.
South Korean President Moon Jae-in expressed hope for a new beginning in relations between two Koreas and the US. Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi praised the summit and called for full de-nuclearisation to resolve the tension in the region.
"It must be a comprehensive denuclearisation. At the same time, we need to establish a security mechanism on the peninsula so as to resolve the security concern of North Korea. I don't think anybody should doubt the unique and important role China plays in the process and we will continue to play such a role."
Japan's Prime Minister Shinzo Abe also welcomed signing of the document. Lalima Aneja Dang, News Desk."

  • Reserve Bank Governor Urjit Patel asks for more powers to oversee Public Sector Banks in view of bad loans.
  • भारतीय रिजर्व बैंक के गवर्नर उर्जित पटेल ने फंसे कर्जों को देखते हुए सरकारी बैंकों पर निगरानी के लिए ज्‍यादा अधिकार की मांग की।
The Reserve Bank needs more powers to oversee Public Sector Banks (PSBs) in view of bad loans in state-run lenders. This was stated by RBI Governor Urjit Patel  before the Parliamentary Standing Committee of Finance in New Delhi today. Sources said, during the meeting, the Governor faced tough questions from lawmakers on bad loans, bank frauds, cash crunch and other issues. Mr Patel assured the members that steps are being taken to strengthen the system.
Mr. Patel also answered queries regarding the recent fraud allegedly committed by absconding jewellers Nirav Modi and his associates in the Punjab National Bank. On the NPA situation, Mr. Patel expressed confidence that the RBI will be able to tide over the crisis.
  • Massive landslides in Western Ghats affect Road and Rail traffic between Bengaluru and Mangaluru.
  • पश्चिमी घाट में भारी भूस्‍खलन से बेंगलुरू और मंगलुरू के बीच सड़क और रेल यातायात प्रभावित।
In Karnataka, traffic between Bengaluru and Mangaluru on National Highway- 48  has been severely affected due to massive landslides in the western ghats throwing huge boulders and trees on the highway. Train service to Mangaluru and Bengaluru was suspended since yesterday following the landslide and work is in progress to set the track right.
Meanwhile, South West Monsoon weakened in North Interior Karnataka. It is still vigorous in Southern region affecting normal life. Rescue operations are on to move people to safer places.

In Tripura, incessant rain has affected about 2500 families due to water logging in low lying areas. Around 40 relief camps have been setup across the state. National Highway-44 is badly affected due to landslides. Police said, one person died in Manughat of South Tripura district.
The MeT department said, heavy rain is likely to occur over the next 48 hrs at isolated places in all districts.

Indian woman boxer Saweety Boora claimed a gold medal in the middleweight category at the Umakhanov Memorial Tournament  in Kaspiysk, Russia today. She beat local favourite Anna Anfinogenova in the final to finish on top in the 75 kilogram category.  Saweety was the only Indian among women to make it to the Final. She is also a former world championship silver-medallist.
  • In Athletics, Gavit Murali Kumar bags gold in men's 10,000 metre race at Gouden Spike meeting in the Netherlands.
  • नीदरलैंड में गाउडेन स्‍पाईक मीटिंग में भारत के गवित मुरली कुमार ने दस हजार मीटर दौड़ का स्वर्ण पदक हासिल किया।
Young long distance runner Gavit Murali Kumar bagged a gold in men's 10,000 metre race at the Gouden Spike meeting in Leiden, The Netherlands. Kumarclocked a personal best of 28 minutes 43.34 seconds. It was the best by an Indian in the ongoing season. It was also the second fastest time by an Indian ever in the distance race, just short of long-distance coach Surendra Singh's national record of 28 minutes 2.89 seconds set at Vigo, Spain in 2008.
