Addressing the fourth meeting of NITI Aayog's Governing Council in New Delhi yesterday, Mr Modi flagged the issue of simultaneous elections at the central and the state level, citing its multiple benefits. Briefing reporters after the meeting NITI Aayog Vice-Chairman Rajiv Kumar said, Prime Minister noted that the country remains in perpetual election mode and suggested that there could be one uniform voter list for all elections.

Minister of State in Prime Minister's Office Jitendra Singh has said that senior journalist Shujaat Bukhari was killed because he tried to find a middle path in Jammu and Kashmir. Dr Singh said, who so ever follows the middle path in Kashmir is targeted. He said what happened to Bukhari is not an isolated case, Mirwaiz Maulvi Farooq and Abdul Ghani Lone were also targeted by Pakistan over the years for speaking with equanimity.
In an exclusive interview to DD News, Dr Singh said Centre has decided to restart operations against terrorists in the state keeping in mind all security aspects. He said, the government's priority is to ensure peaceful conduct of the Amarnath Yatra.

असम में हाल की बाढ़ में नौ लोग मारे गए हैं। बराक घाटी के तीन जिलों में स्थिति गंभीर बनी हुई है। बाढ़ से छह जिलों में करीब साढ़े चार लाख लोगों पर असर पड़ा है। एन.डी.आर.एफ. और एस.डी.आर.एफ. ने कल बराक घाटी के कछार, करीमगंज और हैलाकांडी जिलों में करीब छह हजार लोगों को सुरक्षित स्थानों पर पहुंचाया। करीब एक लाख तिहत्तर हजार विस्थापित व्यक्तियों को अस्थायी राहत शिविरों में शरण दी गई है।

Security sources told AIR that a fresh gunfight broke out between the terrorists and the joint team of Army and Para Commandos in the Panar forest after inputs about the presence of large group of terrorists in the area. Last week, two terrorists were killed and an army soldier was martyred in the operation.

Railway Minister Piyush Goyal today said, punctuality, cleanliness and catering are the focus of the government. Addressing a press conference in New Delhi today, Mr Goyal said, in the last seven to eight days he personally reviewed the performance of the railways on the punctuality issue. Mr Goyal said, efforts to improve punctuality will be made without compromising safety.
Infrastucture development works related to safety and the massive investement on tracks expansion, new lines , electrifications , station development also have to be carried out in the railways continuesly . We cannot have trains running while the work is carried out . So we have discussed and engaged with the entire rail infrastucture how to do this in a scientific and organised manner with out compromising the safty.
Mr Goyal said, number of train accidents have reduced to 73 in the last year. He said wherever a train journey is delayed during meal time, his Ministry will ensure to provide a meal and drinking water for passengers.

Goods and Service Tax has resulted in formalization of economy of tax base. Finance Ministry in a release said, under GST, there will be seamless flow of availability of data to both the Centre and the States making Direct and Indirect Tax collections more effective. Between June and July last year, 6.6 lakh new agents which were previously outside the tax net, sought GST registration. This figure is expected to rise consistently as the incentives for formalization increase.
The Finance Ministry also said, entire Textile chain has now been brought under tax net.

The Delhi High Court today heard the petition against the sit-in by Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and some of his cabinet colleagues at the Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal's office. The court also heard the petition against the alleged strike by the IAS officers of Delhi government. It observed that strikes are usually held outside an establishment or office and not inside.
The matters are likely to be heard on the 22nd of this month.

President Ram Nath Kovind today met the President of Greece, Prokopis Pavlopoulos at the Presidential Mansion. The two leaders discussed matters of mutual interest including economic cooperation and enhancement of bilateral trade. The leaders said that relations between the two countries goes back in history and ties will be further strengthened with Mr Kovind's visit. A delegation level talks are underwaywith the Greek government.
Earlier, Mr Kovind was given the ceremonial welcome at the Presidential Mansion. India and Greece are keen to increase their commercial and investment contacts. Greece looks for Indian investment in their programme of privatisation of public assets. Three Indian companies have partnerships in Greece and 10 Greek companies are operating in India. But the investments in each other's country are not significant. As far as total trade between the two countries is concerned, it is around 507 million US dollars. Greek companies have shown interest in doing business in India including export of olive oil and olive, cheese, fruit and fruit juice, consumer goods etc. The visit of the Indian delegation assumes significance in this context also. In Assam, flood situation in Barak Valley is showing a slight improvement as water levels of major rivers flowing in the Valley have receded considerably. However flood water logging in Alkapur constituency is a matter of concern. Two bodies were recovered in Hailakandi district.
In a major improvement, restoration work on rail track between New Halflong and Badarpur hill stations has been completed resulting in movement of some special trains in the region. However, movements on Badarpur hill to Silchar and Badarpur hill to Dharmnagar stations are still stuck due to flood and landslide. Major trains are still suspended.

District Administration officials told AIR that around 75,000 people have taken shelter in 139 camps in Kumarghat and Kailasahar subdivisions of the district. The rescue operation is over now. Meanwhile, personnel from the water resource department, NDRF, Tripura State Rifles, Assam Rifles and local people have swung into action to repair cracks in some river embankments of the district to avoid flushing out river water through those embankments. जम्मू कश्मीर के बांदीपुरा जिला में आतंकियों के विरूद्ध जारी कार्रवाई में आज सवेरे दो और अज्ञात आतंकवादी ढेर हो गए। अब तक इस कार्रवाई के तहत कुल चार आतंकवादी मारे जा चुके हैं। सुरक्षा सूत्रों ने आकाशवाणी को बताया कि पनार के जंगलों में बड़ी संख्या में आतंकवादियों की मौजूदगी का सुराग मिलने के बाद सेना तथा अर्द्ध सैनिक कमांडो के संयुक्त दल तथा आतंकवादियों के बीच ताजा गोलाबारी हुई। पिछले सप्ताह इस कार्रवाई के दौरान दो अज्ञात आतंकवादी मारे गए थे और सेना का एक जवान शहीद हो गया था।
यह अभियान इस महीने की 9 तारीख को इसी इलाके में सेना के गश्ती दल पर आतंकी हमले के बाद शुरू किया गया था।

मानव संसाधन विकास मंत्री प्रकाश जावड़ेकर ने कहा है कि देश की शिक्षा प्रणाली को सशक्त बनाने के लिए चार वर्ष में 33 नई पहल की गई हैं। श्री जावड़ेकर ने एनडीए सरकार के चार साल के कार्यकाल में अपने मंत्रालय की उपलब्धियों के बारे में मीडिया को जानकारी देते हुए कहा कि कई क्रांतिकारी परिवर्तन किए गए हैं।
चार साल में शिक्षा के क्षेत्र में इतने नये बदलाव आये हैं। 33 नई पहल इस सरकार ने की है और ये बहुत महत्वपूर्ण है।
श्री जावड़ेकर ने कहा कि उनका मंत्रालय सभी के लिए कम खर्चीली और अच्छे स्तर की शिक्षा उपलब्ध कराने के प्रति वचनबद्ध है। श्री जावड़ेकर ने यह भी कहा कि दोपहर भोजन योजना को मजबूत बनाने के लिए और ज्यादा धन दिया जा रहा है।

दिल्ली उच्च न्यायालय ने राज्य के मुख्यमंत्री अरविंद केजरीवाल और उनके कुछ कैबिनेट सहयोगियों के उपराज्यपाल अनिल बैजल के कार्यालय में चल रहे धरने के खिलाफ दायर याचिका पर आज सुनवाई की। न्यायालय ने दिल्ली सरकार के भारतीय प्रशासनिक सेवा के अधिकारियों की कथित हड़ताल के खिलाफ दायर याचिका पर भी सुनवाई की। न्यायालय ने व्यवस्था दी कि आम तौर पर हड़ताल किसी प्रतिष्ठान या कार्यालय के बाहर की जाती है उसके भीतर नहीं। इन दो याचिकाओं के अलावा दिल्ली विधानसभा में विपक्ष के नेता विजेन्द्र गुप्ता ने भी आम आदमी पार्टी नेता अरविंद केजरीवाल के धरने के विरोध में अलग याचिका दायर की थी। इन मामलों की सुनवाई इस महीने की 22 तारीख को की जाएगी।

असम में घाटी की प्रमुख नदियों में जल स्तर कुछ घटने के संकेत हैं। लेकिन अलकापुर चुनाव क्षेत्र में बाढ़ का पानी भरे होने से चिंता बनी हुई है। हैलाकांडी जिले में दो शव निकाले गए हैं। राज्य के जल संसाधन मंत्री केशव महंता ने कल बाढ़ पीडि़त इलाकों का जायजा लिया और अधिकारियों को बचाव राहत कार्य तेज करने की हिदायत दी।
न्यू हॉफलोंग और बदरपुर हिल के बीच रेल लाइन पर यातायात बहाल करने का काम पूरा हो गया है और इस क्षेत्र में कुछ विशेष रेलगाडि़यां चलने लगी हैं। लेकिन बदरपुर हिल से सिल्चर और धर्मनगर स्टेशनों के बीच रेल यातायात अभी रूका हुआ है।

आज गोवा क्रांति दिवस मनाया जा रहा है। इस दिन ही 1946 में स्वतंत्रता संग्राम सेनानी डॉ. राममनोहर लोहिया ने पुर्तगाली उपनिवेश के विरूद्ध संघर्ष करने के लिए लोगों का आह्वान किया था। इस आह्वाहन से गोवा मुक्ति संघर्ष चलता रहा और 19 दिसंबर, 1961 को गोवा आजाद हुआ।
गोवा की राज्यपाल डॉ.मृदुला सिन्हा और मुख्यमंत्री मनोहर पर्रिकर ने इस अवसर पर पणजी के आजाद मैदान में शहीदों को श्रद्धांजलि दी। डॉ. मृदला सिन्हा ने लोगों से आग्रह किया कि गोवा को स्वतंत्र और विकसित बनाने के सपने को लेकर बलिदान करने वाले शहीदों की कहानियां युवाओं को बताएं।
हम जानते हैं कि भारत वर्ष में विशेषकर गोवा में भी हमारे ऐसे पूर्वज हुए। जिन्होंने गोवा को स्वतंत्र बनाकर सुखी बनाने के लिए, विकसित बनाने के लिए कार्य किया हम उनको नहीं भूल सकते और यह भी बहुत आवश्यक है कि हम आने वाली पीढि़यों को इसकी याद दिलाते रहें।

Finance Minister Piyush Goyal has said, the government is committed to meet the fiscal deficit target of 3.3 per cent for the current fiscal despite it being an election year. Addressing a function in New Delhi today, Mr Goyal said, there will not be a spending cut to meet the target as the government has enough alternative resources for planned expenditure. He said, the government will maintain stability in the economy and meet all economic parameters. The Minister said, India's economy can grow in double digits by the fourth quarter of the current fiscal in view of rising demand.

Railways Minister Piyush Goyal today said, his ministry is focusing on punctuality, cleanliness and catering. Addressing a press conference in New Delhi today, Mr Goyal said, safety of the train is the topmost priority of the government. He said, the target of replacing bio-toilets with vacuum bio-toilets in trains will be achieved 100 percent by March next year.

The Centre is planning to expand its BPO Promotion Scheme to create more jobs for rural youth. This was stated by IT Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad in New Delhi today. Highlighting the achievements of his ministry during the last four years, Mr. Prasad said, under the BPO movement seats will be extended from current 48 thousand to one lakh. He added that the country's largest National Data Centre will be set up in Bhopal.

Mr Prasad said, there are 3 lakh Common Service Centers at present across 1.83 lakh gram panchayats. This has created village level entrepreneurs, out of which 54,000 are women, and provided jobs to nearly 12 lakh people. The Minister informed over 59 crore Indians have linked about 88 crore Bank Accounts with Aadhar. Nearly four lakh crore rupee have been disbursed as direct benefit transfer to poor people leading to savings of 90 thousand crore rupees in the last four years. Mr. Prasad, who is also the Minister of Law and Justice said, NDA government has taken several steps to make justice accessible for all. He said, there has been substantive increase in the number of fast track courts.

Home Minister Rajnath Singh has cautioned against the new challenges in cyber-related crimes and called for effective measures to improve cyber security. In a review meeting in New Delhi today, Mr Singh expressed concern over the misuse of social media. The Home Minister directed officials to strengthen the capabilities of law enforcement agencies to meet the challenges.
On rising misuse of internet for circulating child pornography and other obscene material, Mr Singh directed to expedite the launch of online cybercrime reporting portal to lodge complaints. He called for regular cyber auditing of Information Technology infrastructure of all organisations under his Ministry. Mr Singh also stressed on increasing public awareness and strengthening of institutional framework for checking financial frauds by phone.

In Jammu & Kashmir, two terrorists were killed in an ongoing operation at Bandipora district this morning. With this, the death toll of terrorists in the operation has reached four.
Security sources told AIR that a fresh gunfight broke out between the terrorists and the joint team of Army and Para Commandos in the Panar forest after inputs about the presence of terrorists in the area. Last week, two terrorists were killed and an army soldier was martyred in the operation.

BJP National President Amit Shah today laid the foundation stone for 19 new cancer hospitals in Guwahati. These centres will be set up across Assam under joint initiative of the Assam government and Tata Trust. Information and Broadcasting Minister Colonel Rajyavardhan Rathore today inaugurated the European Union Film Festival at Siri Fort Auditorium in New Delhi. Speaking on the occasion, Col. Rathore said it is a big step towards deepening the relationship between India and the European Union. The minister said this platform connects the people of both the countries emotionally and brings joy and provides opportunity to experience different cultures.
"Our colour of the skin could be different, our culture may be different, the clothes that we wear may be different but we are the same people. We are one people in this one planet. And I think when we see these films, this aspect is reiterated. The message that the story delivers can be connected to any person from any country. I think, that's what makes us as one people."

President Ram Nath Kovind today met the Greek President Prokopis Pavlopoulos and Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras in Athens. President Kovind also led delegation level talks with his Greek counterpart. Both the countries signed three MoUs in different areas. The MoUs include cooperation between Indian Foreign Service Institute and its Greek counterpart, cooperation in the field of standardization and cultural co-operation programme between India and Greece from 2018 to 2020.
During his meeting with the Greek Prime Minister, the President discussed matters of mutual interest. Leader of Opposition Kyriakos Mitsotakis also called on President Kovind.
Talking to our correspondent, India's Ambassador to Greece Shamma Jain said, the President's visit to Greece aims at making relations between the two countries more robust and relevant.
"Greece is emerging out of an eight year-long economic crisis and it's looking at foreign investments. It recognises India's economic buyoncy, India's economic dymanism and it sees the important role that India plays in global affairs as a fastest growing large economy. So, given India's economic strength it is very keen on inviting Indian investments, indian businessman to Greece and explore opportunities in the areas of infrastructure, shipping, IT, agriculture, defence and above all tourism."
The President reached Athens on Saturday on a three nation tour to Greece, Suriname and Cuba. He will leave for Suriname tomorrow.

India has reaffirmed strong commitment to take forward its relationship with Italy. MEA spokesperson Raveesh Kumar in a tweet said, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj today met her Italian counterpart Enzo Moavero Milanesi in Rome. He said, the two leaders reviewed all aspects of bilateral relationship and exchanged views on regional and global issues of mutual interest. Ms Swaraj reached Rome yesterday on the first leg of her four nation European tour.
Today, Ms Swaraj also met Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte and congratulated him on assuming the high position. It is the first major political exchange between India and Italy following the swearing-in of Mr Conte as Italy’s new Prime Minister on the 1st of this month.
Meanwhile, after concluding her visit to Italy, Ms Swaraj has reached France.

The European Union today rolled over for another year's tough sanctions imposed against Russia's 2014 annexation of Crimea from Ukraine. The measures prohibit certain exports and imports, and ban investment and tourism services by EU-based companies in Crimea. The EU reiterated that it does not recognise and continues to condemn this violation of international law.

श्री रविशंकर प्रसाद, जो विधि और न्याय मंत्री भी हैं, ने कहा कि एनडीए सरकार ने सभी को न्याय प्रणाली सुलभ बनाने के लिए कई कदम उठाये हैं।

गृहमंत्री राजनाथ सिंह ने साईबर अपराधों से जुड़ी नई चुनौतियों के बारे में सावधान करते हुए साईबर सुरक्षा और मजबूत करने के लिए कारगर कदम उठाने को कहा है। आज नई दिल्ली में एक समीक्षा बैठक में उन्होंने सोशल मीडिया के दुरूपयोग पर चिंता जताई। गृहमंत्री ने चुनौतियों का सामना करने के उद्देश्य से कानून लागू करने वाली एजेंसियों की क्षमता बढ़ाने के लिए अधिकारियों को निर्देश दिये ताकि प्रभावित लोग पोर्टल पर अपनी शिकायत दर्ज कर सकें।
श्री सिंह ने गृह मंत्रालय के अंदर सभी विभागों से सूचना प्रौद्योगिकी ढांचे के नियमित साईबर ऑडिट करने को कहा है फोन कर भोले-भाले व्यक्तियों के साथ वित्तीय धोखाधड़ी की घटनाओं पर गृहमंत्री ने लोगों के बीच जागरूकता फैलाने और इस तरह की धोखाधड़ी को रोकने के लिए संस्थागत ढांचे को मजबूत बनाने पर बल दिया।

भारतीय जनता पार्टी के राष्ट्रीय अध्यक्ष अमित शाह ने आज गुवाहाटी में 19 नए कैंसर अस्पतालों की आधारशिला रखी। ये अस्पताल पूरे असम में स्थापित किया जाएंगे। हमारे संवाददाता ने बताया है कि इस अवसर पर असम के मुख्यमंत्री सर्बानंद सोनोवाल, अरूणाचल प्रदेश के मुख्यमंत्री पेमा खांडु और उद्योगपति रतन टाटा भी मौजूद थे।

जम्मू कश्मीर के बांदीपुरा जिला में आतंकियों के विरूद्ध जारी कार्रवाई में आज सवेरे दो और अज्ञात आतंकवादी ढेर हो गए। अब तक इस कार्रवाई के तहत कुल चार आतंकवादी मारे जा चुके हैं। सुरक्षा सूत्रों ने आकाशवाणी को बताया कि पनार के जंगलों में बड़ी संख्या में आतंकवादियों की मौजूदगी का सुराग मिलने के बाद सेना तथा अर्द्ध सैनिक कमांडो के संयुक्त दल तथा आतंकवादियों के बीच ताजा गोलाबारी हुई। पिछले सप्ताह इस कार्रवाई के दौरान दो अज्ञात आतंकवादी मारे गए थे और सेना का एक जवान शहीद हो गया था।

राष्ट्रपति रामनाथ कोविंद ने आज एथेंस में ग्रीस के राष्ट्रपति प्रोकोपिस पावलो पूलुस और प्रधानमंत्री एलेक्सिस सिप्रस से मुलाकात की। उन्होंने श्री पावलो के साथ शिष्टमंडल स्तर की बातचीत का नेतृत्व किया। भारत और ग्रीस ने विभिन्न क्षेत्रों में सहयोग के तीन समझौता ज्ञापनों पर हस्ताक्षर किये हैं। भारतीय विदेश सेवा संस्थान तथा ग्रीस के इसके समकक्ष संस्थान, मानकीकरण के क्षेत्र में सहयोग और 2018 से 2020 को बीच सांस्कृतिक सहयोग कार्यक्रम के बारे में समझौते किये गये हैं।
श्री कोविंद ने ग्रीस के प्रधानमंत्री के साथ परस्पर हित के मुद्दों पर चर्चा की। विपक्ष के नेता किरियाकोस मित्सोताकिस ने श्री कोविंद से मुलाकात की। श्री कोविंद ने एथेंस में सेंटाग्मा स्केयर में सैनिकों के स्मारक पर पुष्प-चक्र अर्पित किया। वे कॉमनवेल्थ वार सिमेट्री भी गए और पुष्प-चक्र समर्पित किया। उनका आज भारत के व्यापार प्रतिनिधिमंडल से मिलने का भी कार्यक्रम है।

श्री कोविंद तीन देशों- ग्रीस, सूरीनाम और क्यूबा की यात्रा के पहले चरण में शनिवार को एथेंस पहुंचे थे। वे कल सूरीनाम के लिए रवाना होंगे।

भारत ने इटली के साथ संबंध मजबूत करने की प्रतिबद्धता दोहराई है। विदेश मंत्रालय के प्रवक्ता रवीश कुमार ने ट्वीट कर कहा है कि विदेशमंत्री सुषमा स्वराज ने आज रोम में इटली के विदेशमंत्री एन्जो मोआवेरो मिलानेसी से मुलाकात की। श्री कुमार ने बताया कि दोनों नेताओं ने द्विपक्षीय संबंधों के सभी पहलुओं की समीक्षा की और परस्पर हित के क्षेत्रीय तथा अंतरराष्ट्रीय मुद्दों पर विचार-विमर्श किया।

उपराष्ट्रपति एम. वेंकैया नायडू ने आज नई दिल्ली में अखिल भारतीय आयुर्विज्ञान संस्थान-एम्स जाकर पूर्व प्रधानमंत्री अटल बिहारी वाजपेयी के स्वास्थ्य की जानकारी ली। श्री नायडू ने अस्पताल में श्री वाजपेयी के परिवार के सदस्यों से भी बातचीत की। एक सरकारी विज्ञप्ति में कहा गया है कि श्री वाजपेयी के हालात स्थिर हैं और स्वास्थ में सुधार हो रहा है।

यूरोपीय संघ ने 2014 में यूक्रेन से अलग कर क्रीमिया को रूस में मिलाने को लेकर रूस पर लगाये गये कड़े प्रतिबंधों की अवधि आज एक और साल के लिए बढ़ा दी है।
इस कदम से क्रीमिया के साथ निर्यात-आयात पर रोक रहेगी और यूरोपीय संघ स्थित कंपनियां वहां निवेश और पर्यटन सेवायें उपलब्ध नहीं करा सकेंगी। यह प्रतिबंध अगले साल 23 जून तक लागू रहेगा।
रूस ने मार्च 2014 में सामरिक दृष्टि से महत्वपूर्ण काला सागर स्थित क्रीमिया प्रायद्वीप को अपने में मिला लिया था।

सूचना और प्रसारण मंत्री कर्नल राज्यवर्धन राठौड़ ने आज नई दिल्ली के सिरी फोर्ट ऑडिटोरियम में यूरोपीय संघ फिल्मोत्सव का उद्घाटन किया। इस अवसर पर उन्होंने कहा कि यह फिल्मोत्सव भारत और यूरोपीय संघ के बीच संबंध मजबूत करने की दिशा में एक बड़ा कदम है।
फिल्मोत्सव में 23 यूरोपीय देशों की 24 फिल्में दिखाई जाएंगी। इस आयोजन का उद्देश्य भारत और यूरोपीय देशों के बीच सांस्कृतिक संबंधों में सुधार करना है।
