Prime Minister Narendra Modi left for the Chinese city of Qingdao this morning on a two-day visit. During his stay, Mr Modi will attend the annual meeting of eight-nation Shanghai Co-operation Organisation or SCO. Today, Mr Modi will hold bilateral meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping. During their interaction, the two leaders are expected to explore ways to deepen ties in areas of trade and investment besides reviewing the overall bilateral co-operation. The Prime Minister is also expected to hold bilateral meetings with leaders of other SCO member countries. Before leaving for Qingdao, Mr. Modi expressed excitement on leading the Indian delegation for their first ever meeting of the SCO grouping as a full member. In a Facebook post, the Prime Minister said, the SCO has a rich agenda for co-operation, ranging from fighting terrorism, separatism and extremism, promoting co-operation in connectivity, commerce and fostering people-to-people relations.
This will be India’s first participation as a full member after joining the grouping last year, which also includes China and Russia as its members. The Qingdao summit is expected to reaffirm the Shanghai spirit of inclusivity and cooperation among member countries. Our correspondent, covering the Prime Minister's visit, has filed a report:-
"Coming on the back of two successful informal summits of Prime Minister Modi with the Chinese and Russian Presidents recently, the SCO summit is expected to further cement the emerging contours of India’s relationship with China and Russia and other members of the SCO. The summit will focus on strengthening co-operation to fight terrorism, improving connectivity among member countries and bringing peace and stability in the region. Prime Minister Modi has expressed the belief that Qingdao Summit will further enrich the SCO agenda while heralding a new beginning for India’s engagement with the SCO.

The Election Commission has rejected Congress' allegations of large-scale discrepancies in the voters' list in Madhya Pradesh. In a letter to the party, the poll body said, the allegations of large-scale entries of multiple voters in the assembly constituencies of the state is not borne out(means proven). It said, the issue of image repetition was not related to multiple entries and the matter is being rectified.
A Congress delegation had approached the Commission last week alleging that there were at least 60 lakh bogus(fake) voters listed in the state.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi reached Qingdao, the Eastern Chinese coastal city, a short while ago, to participate in the 18th Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit beginning tomorrow. This will be India’s first participation as a full member of the 8 nation SCO grouping which includes China and Russia as its members.Before leaving for the summit, Mr. Modi said in a Facebook post that he is excited to lead the Indian delegation for the grouping's first-ever meeting with the country as a full member. He said, the SCO has a rich agenda for cooperation, ranging from fighting terrorism, separatism and extremism, promoting cooperation in connectivity, commerce, customs, law, health, agriculture and protecting the environment among others. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be meeting Chinese President Xi Jinping in Qingdao today on the sidelines of the summit. The two leaders are expected to explore ways to deepen ties in areas of trade and investment besides reviewing the overall bilateral cooperation. Mr. Modi is also expected to hold nearly half a dozen bilateral meetings with leaders of other SCO member countries. Yesterday, President Xi Jinping and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin agreed to promote greater development of China-Russia relations at a high level. The two leaders reached the consensus during talks in Beijing. Mr Putin, who is on a state visit to China, will also attend the SCO summit.

Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs, CBIC has cleared over seven thousand crore rupees of the pending GST refunds of exporters in the first nine days of the ongoing Special Refund Fortnight. The department asked exporters and traders to visit their jurisdictional GST office and settle pending claims during the fortnight from 31st May to 14th June. About 14 thousand crore rupees of refunds of exporters were pending due to various mismatches. CBIC organised the special fortnight to fast track clearances. The CBIC has also allowed clearance of GST refunds based on PAN of exporters if such refunds were held up due to mismatch in GST identification Number mentioned in shipping bill and return forms.
निर्यातकों के जीएसटी बिलों के बकाया की वापसी के लिए चलाए विशेष पखवाड़े के दौरान शुरू के नौ दिनों में सात हजार करोड़ रुपये से अधिक राशि का भुगतान किया जा चुका है। केन्द्रीय अप्रत्यक्ष कर एवं सीमा शुल्क बोर्ड ने निर्यातकों और व्यापारियों से कहा है कि वे 31 मई से 14 जून तक विशेष पखवाड़े के दौरान जीएसटी क्षेत्रीय कार्यालय में जाकर अपने बकाया बिल पेश कर सकते हैं। करीब 14 हजार करोड़ रुपये के बिलों का भुगतान कुछ खामियों की वजह से नहीं लौटाया जा सका है। केन्द्रीय अप्रत्यक्ष कर एवं सीमा शुल्क बोर्ड ने उन निर्यातकों के बिलों का बकाया पैन कार्ड के आधार पर लौटाने की अनुमति दे दी है, जिनके रिटर्न फार्म में लिखे गए जीएसटी टिन नम्बर का मिलान नहीं हो पा रहा है।
UN chief Antonio Guterres has described India as a very important inspiration for the international community. He was speaking at an event marking the first anniversary of the India-UN Development Partnership Fund. It was launched last year to support projects in the developing world for the implementation of Sustainable Development Goals. India has committed an amount of 100 million dollars over ten years for the fund.In April 2018, India established a separate Commonwealth Window under the Fund aimed at partnership with developing countries in the Commonwealth. India's Permanent Representative to the UN Syed Akbaruddin said that from the first project of a million dollars, the annual contribution and portfolio of projects has multiplied several times within the first year of the fund's operation. The UN Chief thanked India for its "strong commitment to multilateralism" and to the partnership with the United Nations.

In Women's Cricket, India has entered the final of the Asia Cup T-20 tournament in Kuala Lumpur, crushing Pakistan by 7 wickets. Table topper India achieved the target of 73 runs in the 17th over. Captain Harmanpreet Kaur and Smriti Mandhana made a 65-run third-wicket partnership. Mandhana scored 38 but Harmanpreet took India to the win. She remained unbeaten at 34. Ekta Bisht claimed three wickets for India. India will now meet Bangladesh in the Final tomorrow. Bangladesh beat Malaysia a short while ago. India and China today signed two bilateral agreements during a meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping in Qingdao. The agreements include continuing to share Brahmaputra water data during flood season and exporting non basmati rice to China. The meeting was held on the sidelines of the 18th Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit beginning tomorrow.

India and China today set a trade target of 100 billion US dollars by 2020. Speaking to reporters in Qingdao, Foreign secretary Vijay Gokhale said, during the hour long meeting between Prime minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping both the countries agreed on many initiatives to take forward the spirit of Wuhan.
"A President Xi Jinping also suggested to PM that two country should set a trade target of 100 billion US dollars by 2020".
Mr Gokhale informed that Prime minister accepted the proposal of China to set up a branch of Bank of China in Mumbai to enhance trade and investment ties between the two countries.
"In the scenic port city of Qingdao, both the leaders had a sixty minute long meeting. The meeting resulted in a number of positive outcome. Both the countries decided to set up a new people to people mechanism to enhance cultural exchanges. While the Defence minister of China will be visiting India this year, second round of talks to settle boundary issues will also take place. The most important outcome, however, is that the Chinese President accepted Prime minister Modi’s invitation for a Wuhan type informal summit in India next year.
