Prime Minister Narendra Modi will leave for a two-day visit to China tomorrow to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation- SCO Summit. Briefing media in New Delhi yesterday, External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Raveesh Kumar said, regional issues will be discussed during the summit.
"Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi will be participating in the forthcoming 18th meeting of the Council of Heads of State of Shanghai Cooperation Organization to be held under chairmanship of Chinese president Xi-Jinping in China on 9th and 10th of June. This will be the first SCO summit after India became a member in June 2017."
Mr Kumar said, Mr. Modi will also hold bilateral talks with the Chinese President Xi Jinping tomorrow followed by the summit event on Sunday.
Mr Kumar said, India’s focus will be on strengthening cooperation to fight terrorism, improving connectivity among member countries and bringing peace and stability in the region.

प्रवक्ता ने बताया कि श्री मोदी चीन के राष्ट्रपति षी चिनफिंग के साथ कल बातचीत करेंगे।
प्रधानमंत्री नरेन्द्र मोदी 9 और 10 जून को चीन के राष्ट्रपति शी जिनपिंग की अध्यक्षता में शंघाई कोऑपरेशन ऑर्गनाईजेशन के राष्ट्राध्यक्षों की आगामी 18वीं बैठक में भाग लेंगे। जून 2017 में भारत के इस संगठन का सदस्य बनने के बाद एस सी ओ का ये पहला शिखर सम्मेलन है।
श्री रवीश कुमार ने बताया कि शंघाई सहयोग संगठन के सम्मेलन का उद्देश्य सदस्य देशों के बीच मौजूदा संबंध और मज़बूत करना है। श्री कुमार ने कहा कि भारत आतंकवाद से मुकाबले, सदस्य देशों के बीच संपर्क बढ़ाने और क्षेत्र में शांति और स्थिरता पर प्रमुख रूप से ध्यान केन्द्रित करेगा।

The International Monetary Fund has welcomed the decision of the Reserve Bank of India to increase the repo rate by 25 basis point to 6.25 per cent. IMF Spokesman Gerry Rice told this to reporters during his bi-weekly news conference in Washington. He said that the IMF thinks that this was an appropriate step by the RBI in present context of rising inflation and additional upside risks to the forecasts due to higher oil prices, exchange rate depreciation and other domestic factors.

Commerce and Industry Minister Suresh Prabhu today said, the government will soon announce a new industrial policy. Briefing media in New Delhi on achievements of his ministry in the last four years, Mr Prabhu said, intensive consultations are going on in this regard and the new policy will make India ready for a fourth industrial revolution.
The Minister said, the Central government has instilled business confidence among people and domestic investment has picked up while industrial production is also going up. He said, India will soon be a five trillion economy.
Mr Prabhu said, the government is working on a strategy to increase exports and promote agricultural growth in the country. He said, there is a clear upsurge in investments and trade should become an engine for India’s economic growth story. The minister also added the US is India's very important trade partner.

- Air India seeks 1,000 crore rupee bank loan to meet its urgent working capital requirement.
- एयर इंडिया ने जरूरी कामकाज निपटाने के लिए एक हजार करोड़ रूपये का बैंक ऋण मांगा।
National Carrier Air India has sought proposals for short-term loans worth one thousand crore rupees to meet its urgent working capital requirements. According to the bid document, the one thousand crore loan will be drawn in June in one or more tranches. The airline has requested banks to submit their financial bids by the 13th of this month. The tenure of the loan will be one year from the date of availing short-term loans. Amid fund crunch, during which Air India also had to defer its staff salaries, the airline borrowed 6,250 crore rupees from various banks between September last year and January this year for working capital requirements and other needs.
The debt-ridden Air India, has not paid salaries of the staff for the month of May. The government had attempted to sell 76 per cent stakes of the national carrier which came a cropper last month after it did not get even a single bidder.
राष्ट्रीय विमानन कम्पनी एयर इंडिया ने अपनी तात्कालिक पूंजीगत जरूरतों को पूरा करने के लिए दस अरब रूपये के लघु अवधि के ऋण के प्रस्ताव आमंत्रित किए हैं। ऋण के दस्तावेजों के अनुसार दस अरब रूपये का ऋण जून में एक या दो किस्तों में लिया जायेगा। एयर लाइन ने बैंकों से अपने प्रस्ताव इस महीने की 13 तारीख तक देने को कहा है।
धन की कमी के कारण एयर इंडिया को अपने कर्मचारियों के वेतन देने में परेशानी हो रही थी और उसे पिछले वर्ष सितम्बर और इस वर्ष जनवरी के बीच विभिन्न बैंकों से 62 अरब पचास करोड़ रूपये का कर्ज लेना पड़ा था।

Commerce Minister Suresh Prabhu today said India's GDP growth is likely to cross eight per cent in the next two years. He said, the government is taking a number of steps including formulation of a new industrial policy to double the economy's size to five trillion dollars in 7 to 8 years. India's GDP grew at the fastest pace in seven quarters at 7.7 per cent in the January-March quarter of last fiscal. On yearly basis, however, it grew at a four-year low of 6.7 per cent in 2017-18, down from 7.1 per cent in the previous fiscal.
On his US visit next week, Mr Prabhu said that he would meet his counterpart and industry leaders and raise India's concerns about tightening visa regime in the US and its impact on Indian IT sector.

Finance Minister Piyush Goyal has announced setting up of a committee to give recommendations in two weeks on formation of an Asset Reconstruction Company, ARC for faster resolution of stressed accounts of public sector banks. After meeting the heads of state- owned banks in Mumbai today, Mr Goyal said the government stands solidly behind each of the 21 public sector banks (PSBs). He said, the committee under Sunil Mehta, non-executive chairman of PNB, will recommend to set up the ARC. Mr Goyal said, most of the stressed assets have been identified that could fit into the ARC. He said, banks will consider, having oversight committees with external experts, to help faster decision making and resolvie stressed accounts in a transparent and speedy manner.
Mr Goyal said, suggestions on strengthening governance process and honest recognition of NPAs or bad loans in PSBs were discussed during the meeting.
वित्तमंत्री पीयूष गोयल ने पंजाब नेशनल बैंक के गैर कार्यकारी अध्यक्ष सुनील मेहता की अध्यक्षता में एक समिति गठित करने की घोषणा की है। यह समिति सार्वजनिक क्षेत्र के बैंकों के फंसे हुए कर्जों के तेजी से समाधान के लिए परिसम्पत्ति पुनर्गठन कम्पनी के गठन के लिए दो सप्ताह में सिफारिश करेगी।
Union Minister Arun Jaitley today said, the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (Amendment) Ordinance-2018 will eliminate fly-by-night operators in real estate and ensure timely completion of projects. Earlier this week, President Ram Nath Kovind gave his assent to promulgate the Ordinance, 2018, which allows home buyers to be recognised as financial creditors under the insolvency proceedings. In his Facebook Post, Mr Jaitley said, projects would be completed in reasonable time and investors would get their share of allotments expeditiously.
