Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hold high level bilateral talks with Singaporean counterpart Lee Hsien Loong on issues of mutual interest today. A gamut of strategic, economic and technological issues is likely to figure during their talks. Both leaders are expected to review the Comprehensive Economic Cooperation Agreement during their bilateral talks. India and Singapore will also sign and exchange agreements and MoUs in areas of higher education, capacity building, defence, urban infrastructure, people to people contacts followed by a joint statement. Mr. Modi who reached Singapore yesterday on the third and last leg of thr three nation tour will also take part in a series of events today. He will call on Singapore President Halimah Yakub and visit Nanyang Technical University to interact with the StudentsLater, in the day Mr Modi, will deliver a key-note address in the 18th Shangri La dialogue, a global platform that discusses security related issues in the Asia Pacific region. Mr Modi is the first Indian leader to deliver a key note address at this international forum. More from our correspondent:
"The Shangri La dialogue, also known as Asia Security Summit is an annual meeting of defence ministers and senior military officials  from over 50 countries. Since its launch in 2002, the dialogue has built confidence and fostered security cooperation among the participant countries. The event, being  organised by London based International Institute for Strategic studies, highlights the emerging security challenges before the member countries for  detailed discussion. The forum offers Mr Modi just the right platform to articulate the definitive perspective from New Delhi on India’s interests in ensuring peace in the Asia Pacific region. Centre has approved construction of one lakh fifty thousand houses for urban poor under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. The Housing and Urban Affairs Ministry, in a press release said that latest approval entails an investment of 7,227 crore rupees with central assistance of 2,209 crore rupees. The approval was given in the 34th meeting of the Central Sanctioning and Monitoring Committee at its meeting held at New Delhi.
Andhra Pradesh was sanctioned more than 56,000 houses, while Uttar Pradesh got nearly 23,000 houses Madhya Pradesh around 18,000, Jharkhand got more than 14,000 and Maharashtra around 13,500 houses. Other states for which houses were approved included Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, Odisha, Punjab and Assam.

The Supreme Court has directed the Centre not to disburse any grants to the states which have not registered domestic workers under the Unorganised Workers Social Security Act. The apex court expressed disappointment after it was informed that several states have not complied with its direction for starting registration process from February this year.
The directions to the Centre came on a petition filed by an NGO, which had told the court that despite the Act coming into force in 2008 and framing of several schemes, no domestic worker has enjoyed their benefits.
A bench of Justices Kurian Joseph and M M Shantanagoudar issued notices to all state governments and asked the chief secretaries of each state  to file a status report on action taken in compliance with its earlier orders. The court has posted the matter for further hearing on August 8th.

The First biannual Indian Air Force Commanders' Conference was inaugurated yesterday by Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman at Air Headquarters in New Delhi. The Defence Minister also commended the IAF for its key role in nation building by way of promoting regional connectivity to support UDAN scheme. The IAF has opened up several of its airfields for civil aircraft operations for the scheme.

In Bihar, 14 people were killed and 8 injured due to thunderstorm and lightning in several parts of the state last night.
Expressing grief over the incident Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has announced an ex gratia of four lakh rupees to the next of the kin of the deceased. Crops, including Mango, Litchi, Maize and Banana, have been destroyed due to storm. The MeT department has forecast more thunderstorm in the next 24 hours in several parts of the state.
In Andhra Pradesh, atleast seven persons were dead and three injured due to Thunderstorms in different districts of the state last night.

"We are putting rape kits in every police station and every hospital. These are boxes in which there is a list of what evidence is needed. They got little test tubes, area of clothes, they got a lock so you finish it, you lock it and send it. The second thing the Prime Minister has ordered along with this ordinance a special court.  So once you have your rape kit your special court it will be easier and people will be most scared of committing this heinous crime."

The Enforcement Directorate has slapped a penalty of over 121 crore rupees on the BCCI, its former president N Srinivasan, former IPL commissioner Lalit Modi and others for alleged violation of the FEMA law during the T-20 cricket IPL edition in 2009. The ED was investigating the case for the alleged contravention of the Foreign Exchange Act (FEMA) in transferring over 243 crore rupees out of the country to host the 2009 Indian Premier League edition in South Africa.

Railways has revised its reservation form to allow passengers to book their tickets from counters by using alternate train accommodation scheme VIKALP. Our correspondent reports currently the scheme is available only for online bookings:-
"In the revised reservation form, passengers are given an option either to avail the option of VIKALP scheme or not to avail it. If the option of Vikalp is availed by passengers, they would have to mark  choice of alternate train departing within 48 hours. Opting for VIKALP does not mean that confirmed berth will be provided to passengers in an alternate train. It is subject to the availability of train and berth. Tourism Minister K. J. Alphons launched the Government guidelines on adventure tourism in India. Releasing the guidelines in New Delhi yesterday, Mr Alphons said, India has immense potential for adventure tourism ranging from the Himalayas to the coastal regions. A report:-
"The aim of this initiative is to help adventure tour operators understand and execute safety guidelines in a better manner. These guidelines cover land, air and water based activities which include mountaineering, trekking, bungee jumping, paragliding, kayaking, scuba diving, river rafting and many other sports. The guidelines codify the standard operating procedures and instructions for risk mitigation and emergencies. The Pakistan government has directed the interior ministry to block the national identity card and passport of former president General Pervez Musharraf. A media report said yesterday that the National Data Base Registration Authority and Immigration and Passport Directorate were directed to undertake the action.
Complying with a special court's order, the government took the action to restrict the Dubai-based former president's travel and certain facilities available to him as he failed to appear before the court in the high treason case against him.

India and Singapore today signed eight agreements for enhancing cooperation in the areas of financial services, public administration, cyber security, combating drug trafficking, capacity building and training. The agreements were signed after high level bilateral talks between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Singapore counterpart Lee Hsien Loong in Singapore today.
In a joint press statement after the talks, Mr. Modi said both the countries reviewed bilateral ties and decided to have a road-map to take the relationship forward.
"स्किल डेवलपमेंटप्लानिंग और शहरी विकास के क्षेत्र मेंहमारे सहयोग मेंअच्छी प्रगति हुई है। हमने भारत के 115 एसप्रेशनल डिस्ट्रिक्ट्स में पानी केलिए नई पहल की है। शुरूआत देखी है आज और कल हमने जो एग्रीमेंट किएहैं वे इस सहयोग को एक नए स्तर पर ले जाएंगे।"
The Prime Minister said air services agreement will also be reviewed for increasing air connectivity further. He said Indian companies can use Singapore as a springboard to reach ASEAN countries.
The Prime Minister said relations between India and Singapore are marked by cordiality and trust and both countries share concern over the challenges of cyber security, terrorism and extremism. Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong said, Singapore can be a gateway for India to enter the South East Asian market. During his remarks at the joint press conference, Mr Lee said  both countries made significant progress in strategic partnership and economic ties are substantial. 
"We are collaborating an technology, smart cities and skills development. While Singapore which is a Global Fin.-Tech hub can be a gateway for India to enter south east Asian market. So we agreed to establish a joint working group on Fin-Tech to support this effort.  And we have launched, an initial link for payment systems between NETs and RuPay. So an up grate of this agreement will boost the business and tourism sectors and will bring out two people closer together."
The Singapore Prime Minister noted that the defence ties have strengthened with both the navies signing an agreement on logistic cooperation. Later, Mr Lee hosted banquet in honour of Prime Minister. Our correspondent covering the Prime Minsiter's visit has filed this report:
"The signing of agreements between India and Singapore demonstrate the resolve of the leadership of both countries to work together in areas of mutual interest. The agreements related to skill development will help the youth in both the countries to acquire advanced skills for employment. The Enforcement Directorate has attached over 4,700 crore rupees worth of assets of Sterling Biotech Group in connection with a 5,000 crore rupee bank fraud under money laundering case.
The agency issued a provisional freezing order under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) and attached immovable properties of around 4,000 acres, plant and machinery, around 200 bank accounts of various linked companies and promoters, shares worth  6.67 crore rupees and a number of luxury cars of the Vadodara-based pharmaceutical company. This is one of the ED's biggest attachment of assets under the stringent PMLA this year. The ED had registered a criminal case of money laundering against the firm and its promoters Nitin and Chetan Sandesara in October last year, taking cognisance of a CBI FIR in the case made on charges of alleged corruption. It had then conducted about 50 searches at various locations in the country. 
The probe agencies had alleged that the firm and its absconding promoters, on the basis of false and fabricated documents, had fraudulently obtained credit facilities of more than 5,000 crore rupees from various banks, which subsequently turned into NPAs. The agency has arrested three people so far in this case -- Delhi-based businessman Gagan Dhawan, former Andhra Bank director Anup Garg and Sterling Biotech Ltd director Rajbhushan Dixit.

A special NIA court of Patna today awarded life term to all five convicts in the 2013 Bodhgaya serial bomb blast case. Judge Manoj Kumar Sinha pronounced the judgement. The court on May the 25th had convicted all five in the case.
Two monks and several others were injured in serial blasts on the 7th of July 2013 at Mahabodhi temple in Bodhgaya. NIA had filed the chargesheet on 3rd June 2014. Three of the convicts, Hyder Ali alias Black beauty, Imtiaz Ansari and Mujibullah Ansari are from Ranchi and Umar Siddiqui and Azhar Quraisi are from Chhattisgarh. Ten cylinder bombs went off one after another, at Mahabodhi temple. Three live bombs were also recovered from the spot, which were later defused.
The sentenced  persons are also accused of the Gandhi Maidan bomb explosion in Patna which took place on the 27th of October 2013 during Narendra Modi's rally.

In Meghalaya, curfew was imposed in 11 localities of the capital Shillong  today morning following a clash between a group of bus drivers and residents of Them Metor area. East Khasi Hills District Deputy Commissioner P S Dkhar said the curfew will remain in force till further orders. The district administration has also brought in additional forces to curb violence. Meanwhile, internet service has been suspended. As a precautionary measure schools and colleges have been shut in the city.  Meghalaya Home Minister James K. Sangma has appealed to the people to maintain peace and harmony in the violence hit Shillong. Sangma assured the people that the government is closely monitoring the prevailing situation and have taken all measures to restore peace.

In Jammu & Kashmir, high security alert has been sounded following intelligence inputs about high possibility of terrorist attacks on security forces and security installations in south Kashmir and elsewhere in the Valley. Security sources told AIR that the intelligence agencies have received input about very high possibility of Suicide and hit and run attack on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Meanwhile, unidentified terrorists fired upon a vehicle of CRPF at Eidgah crossing in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district this morning. Security sources said at least 20 Pakistani Jaish e Mohammad outfit terrorists have infiltrated through Pir Panjal Poonch area along LoC and reached south Kashmir areas recently. The security forces have been put on high alert. The forces grid is apprehending a spike in terrorist attacks in the state, particularly in the Valley.

Attacks on minor girls have become an issue about which people have demanded curbing measures by the government. Cases of attack on minor girls, women and youngsters are being reported on a regular basis from various areas. There is need to create awareness on Protection of Children from Sexual offences Act (POCSO). In this context senior advocate of Visakhapatnam, Mrs. Jaha Ara, says.
"It is responsibility of the government to provide security to women. Apart from POSCO and Nirbhaya Act, stringent laws should be made to pinish the offenders who commit offences against women like capital punishment, life imprisonment, seizure of educational certificated, ban on employment and so on. Parents should take equal responsibility for creating awareness in their sons about sexual harassment against women and its consequences."

Home Minister Rajnath Singh today launched an online analytical tool to facilitate closer monitoring of flow and utilisation of foreign contributions received by various organisations registered under the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act (FCRA).
The web-based tool enables decision-makers in various Departments of Government to scrutinize source of foreign funds and their actual use in India. The Home Ministry, in a statement said, it gives them capacity to take data-driven and evidence-based decisions regarding the compliance of the provisions of the FCRA, 2010.

The reduction in fuel prices continued for the third consecutive day today with oil firms cutting rates of petrol by 6 paise and diesel by 5 paise a litre. The reductions follow softening of international oil rates and the rupee gaining against the dollar.
Petrol in Delhi now costs 78 rupees 29 paise a litre and diesel 69 rupees 20 paise per litre, according to a price notification issued by state-owned oil firms.

Price of Non-subsidised cooking gas LPG has been increased by 48 rupees per cylinder from today in New Delhi. The price of Subsidised LPG has also been increased by 2 rupees 34 paise per cylinder in New Delhi.

The European Commission has said it will respond with countermeasures to the US decision to impose tariffs on steel and aluminum imports from the bloc. The Commission's President Jean-Claude Juncker said in a statement that the unilateral US tariffs are unjustified and at odds with WTO rules. He said the US action leaves the European Union (EU) with no choice but to proceed with a case in the WTO and implement tariffs on imports from the US. A report:
"Leaders from affected nations have reacted on the imposition of US tariff. Terming that the US move was illegal, French President Emmanuel Macron said EU would respond in a firm and proportionate manner.
Canada also announced retaliatory duties of up to 12.8 billion US dollars in American imports. Mexican Foreign Minister said his country would also impose duties. UK termed US move as just protectionism. The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has urged countries to work constructively together to reduce trade barriers. Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump has said he would agree to a fair deal on the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), which is currently being renegotiated with Canada and Mexico, or there would be no deal at all. Domestic stocks today logged marginal losses in afternoon trade amid mixed Asian markets. Sensex, at Bombay stock exchange fell 35 points to 35,287. Nifty at National Stock Exchange also slips 26 points to 10,710. The rupee at Forex market in afternoon deals appreciated 33 paise to 67 rupees and eight paise against the US dollar.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said, technology is helping in breaking social barriers and providing good governance and better services to citizens. Interacting with students at Nanyang Technological University in Singapore today, the Prime Minister said that his government is taking several measures to bring the fruits of technology to the common man. He said space technology has helped predict weather close to 100 per cent accuracy. He said technology should be affordable, user-friendly and accessible and technology with ethics and human values is beneficial to mankind.

Mr Modi said, 21st century belongs to Asia and it is now India’s turn to prove itself at global level. He said Asian countries could provide conflict-free environment for peaceful and harmonious coexistence.
Later, delivering key note address at Shangri-La Dialogue this evening, Prime Minister appealed to international community to keep sea and air lanes free from conflict and tensions. He said countries should keep the differences aside and be sensitive to each others interests for ensuring peace and harmony in the region.
We should all have equal access as right under International law to the use of common places on the sea and in the air that would require freedom of navigation commerce,  and peaceful settlement of dispute in accordance with International laws.   When we all agree to live by that code, our sea lanes will be pathways to prosperity and corridors of peace. We will also be able to come together to prevent maritime crimes, preserve marine ecology."
The Prime Minister said, all countries should have access to sea and water lanes under rule of law as they are pathways to peace and prosperity.

In Jammu & Kashmir, a high security alert has been sounded following intelligence inputs about strong possibility of terrorist attacks on security forces and security installations in south Kashmir and elsewhere in the Valley. Security sources said at least 20 Pakistani Jaish e Mohammad outfit terrorists have infiltrated through Pir Panjal Poonch area along LoC and reached south Kashmir areas recently. Sources said, these terrorists have distributed a large number of hand grenades to the Over Ground Workers to be thrown on security forces or security establishments in next at least two to three days. The intelligence agencies also received input about very high possibility of Suicide and hit and run attack on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
Security sources said, necessary instructions have been issued for various security forces agencies.

Government has launched Income Tax Reward Scheme to get people’s participation in its efforts to unearth black money and reduce incidences of tax evasion. The Income Tax Department issued new Benami Transactions Informants Reward Scheme- 2018 in which a person can get reward up to one crore rupees for giving specific information in prescribed manner about benami transactions and properties as well as proceeds from such properties which are actionable. Person who will give specific information about undisclosed black money stashed abroad will get reward of five crore rupees. Foreigners will also be eligible for such reward. Identity of the persons giving information will not be disclosed.
 The scheme is aimed at encouraging people to give information about benami transactions and properties as well as income earned on such properties by such hidden investors and beneficial owners. In a statement, IT Department said the move came as  it was found in many cases that black money was invested in properties in the names of others, even though benefits were enjoyed by the investor concealing his beneficial ownership in his tax returns.  Besides, the  Department also launched a revised Income Tax Informants Reward Scheme. Under the revised scheme, a person can get reward up to 50 lakh rupees  for giving specific information about  black money and tax evasion. on income.

Karnataka Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy will expand his cabinet on the 6th of this month. Briefing reporters in Bengaluru today, Congress in-charge for Karnataka Affairs KC Venugopal said the two alliance partners have reached an agreement about portfolio allocation.
Mr Venugopal said, Congress will have 22 portfolios including Home, Irrigation, Revenue, Agriculture, Health, while JD(S) will have 12 portfolios including Finance, Public Works Department, Tourism and Power.
He said the JD(S) and Congress have also decided to prepare a common minimum programme and work accordingly.

Talking exclusively to AIR, Minister of State for Women and Child Development Dr Virendra Kumar said that the government has done a lot for the welfare and safety of women and children in the country.
"Dr Virendra Kumar said, the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao Scheme  has brought the desired results in the States which were very poor in girl child sex ratio. He said, the states have witnessed improvement in the declining girl child sex ratio. The Minister also spoke about Ministry's initiative of setting up of One Stop Centre to support women affected by violence. He said, the Centre aims to facilitate access to an integrated range of services including medical aid, police assistance, legal aid, case management, psycho-social counselling and temporary support services to women affected by violence.

CBI has summoned former Finance Minister P Chidambaram  to appear  before it on 6th of this month in INX media case. He will be questioned in connection with alleged irregularities in the clearance of foreign investment in INX media. The Congress leader was called yesterday for the questioning in the case but he sought another date to comply with the CBI notice. 
Yesterday, Delhi High Court had granted Mr. Chidambaram interim protection from arrest till 3rd of July in the case.

India has supported a landmark decision of the UN General Assembly for a comprehensive reform of its development system. UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres said it will pave the way for a new era of national ownership of development.
The General Assembly yesterday gave the green light to a bold new plan to make sustainable development a reality. The 193 member intergovernmental body adopted the reform resolution by consensus.
India's Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN Ambassador Tanmay Lal said India had, from the start, extended strong support to the Secretary General's proposals to reform the UN Development System.
